I am currently teaching a 5th/6th grade combo class. At this grade level, students should be familiar with spreadsheets/databases, word processing, presentation software, adding audio & visual to projects, know how to care for equipment/hardware, demonstrate appropriate on-line etiquette, abide by school computer policy, and know computer safety.
What are the essential elements that should be addressed by an effective classroom technology policy guide for the grade level that you teach?
- I will only use the Internet and computers with the teacher’s permission.
- I will only use the Internet and computers for the assigned task.
- I will stay safe by never sharing personal information (i.e.: full name, address, telephone number, etc.).
- I will tell my teacher and/or parents immediately if anyone on the Internet tries to meet with me.
- I will tell my teacher immediately if I see anything on the Internet that is inappropriate or that makes me uncomfortable.
- I will respect copyright laws and will make sure to show where I found information, and will not copy it without permission.
- I will not enter inappropriate or hurtful language into the computer.
- I will respect the school computer equipment by taking good care of the equipment I use.
- I will respect other saved files on the computer.
- I will not put any CDs into the computer unless they are approved by the teacher.
- I will only use email for a class project directed by my teacher. Any mail will be sent or received by my teacher.
- I will only download information onto school computers under the direction of my teacher.I will not buy or sell anything using the school computers.
- I understand that I will only be able to use school computers if I follow these rules.
What Internet safety issues should students and parents, at your grade level, be informed of?
ALWAYS.......
- tell your teacher about inappropriate websites.
- tell your teacher is someone on the internet tries to "meet you".
- tell your teacher about cyber bullying.
- check with your teacher before downloading.
NEVER........
- give out personal information.
- put inappropriate language into the computer.
- accept emails or messages from strangers.

I agree with you on all of your rules and procedures! I think it is important for upper elementary students to have guidelines and restrictions when doing internet searches. These students are very tech savvy and they know how to maneuver around the internet and computer, but they don't often know what is safe and what is not. You did a great job at making the information to the point.
ReplyDeleteHi, Stephanie. OK, my second response to you. The first one didn't record because I didn't type in the funny little word. But, I agree about the rules -- and regulations :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the tech-savvy students, too!!
Your blog is stellar, and you ROCK :)
