Using Educational Video in the Classroom

The above educational video is a 12 minute clip from united learning. It outlines the 7 basic universals that all cultures are comprised of. I will be using this video as an introduction to our ancient civilizations unit on Egypt. Once the students are aware of the 7 cultural universals, we will dive into Ancient Egyptian curriculum to see if we can identify how Ancient Egypt fits into the equation.

Using Digital Media in the Classroom:

I have always been an advocate for using digital media in the classroom. When video is incorporated into lessons, students become engaged and have an increased understanding of the topic. According to Emily Cruse, M.Ed., in her article titled "Using Educational Video in the Classroom: Theory, Research and Practice", students learn more when TV or video is used, and close to 70% find that student motivation increases. More than half of frequent users also find that students use new vocabulary as a result of video use (2006).
